DEBORAH (DEBBIE) JOAN SWEENEY BELSITO

RICHLAND – Deborah (Debbie) Joan Sweeney Belsito, 67, of Richland, WA passed away Tuesday (April 23, 2019) after an unexpected and short battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Debbie Belsito was born on December 14, 1951, in Worcester, MA, a daughter of John (Red) J. Sweeney and Alice (Cronin) Sweeney.  She married Anthony Cosmo Belsito on April 16, 1972 in MA, and later relocated to the Tri-Cities in 1976.

Debbie was preceded in death by both parents; and her oldest brother, John Sweeney.

She is survived by her husband Tony Belsito, of 47 years, and their four children: daughter Tara Parker (Eric); and sons: Anthony (Shawna), Robert (Erica) and Angelo (Rebecca); her 11 grandchildren; and her six siblings all from the East Coast: Mary Demarski, Kathleen Woiciechowski, Maureen Sweeney, Kevin Sweeney, Patricia DeMauro, Colleen Tortora; and many nieces and nephews.

Debbie was a 17 year breast cancer survivor and was a stay at home mom to raise all of her children, grandchildren and anybody else’s kids.  She was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith and devoted over 20 years working as a secretary for Christ the King church.  She had a passion for camping that gave her a retirement career as a camp host at Crow Butte Park.  She loved camping, fishing, attending many family sporting events and functions as well as visiting all of her family on the east coast.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Christ the King Parish, 1111 Stevens Drive, Richland.  Monsignor Champoux will officiate.  Burial will be at Einan’s Funeral Home, Richland.

  • Dearest Tony and family, The beauty of Debbie was in her down-to-earthiness! She was one in a million in that she could talk to anyone and she was so genuine when she did. I worked with her in the church office from 2006 until she retired. That left a gigantic hole in that place. I remember Debbie working in the CK Library as well. After her retirement, we didn't see her too much which is a very great regret for us now. She lived her life the way Jesus taught us; in great love for others...I'm sure she met her Best Friend, Jesus, immediately on that day she departed from us....rest in peace, sweet lady...the peace you gave so many, many others.

  • Tony, TJ, Bobby, Angelo & Tara - so many memories from The Hills Mobile Home Pk where we all first met. Coffee in the mornings with your mom, watching our kids play, catching your mom one morning frying bacon (now that’s a story to tell!), birthday & NYE parties, young married housewives from different states whose insulator husbands all found work at Hanford - and we shared those early years together. We send our deepest sympathy and will keep you all in prayer.

  • Tony and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. May your happy memories bring you peace and joy. So when you walk the wood where once we walked together And scan in vain the dappled bank beside you for my shadow, Or pause where we always did upon the hill to gaze across the land, And spotting something, reach by habit for my hand, And finding none, feel sorrow start to steal upon you, Be still. Close your eyes. Breathe. Listen for my footfall in your heart. I am not gone but merely walk within you. Author: Nicholas Evans

  • Dear Tony and family, We were devastated to hear about the sudden loss of our beloved friend. We know that there are no words that can mend your heartache, but please remember that the love she had for her family and friends was so strong and abundant, and it is something that can never be taken away. Hold on to that and know that she is with you always. Debbie was a wonderful woman with a beautiful and generous heart. We cherished her friendship -- from the early days in the neighborhood and all the fun times we had, to hearing loud taps on a window that announced, to our absolute delight, that the Belsito family was back in town and on our doorstep for another surprise visit. Debbie will live on forever in all of our hearts and in the many memories we shared. May time help you heal and may the comfort of your own memories bring you strength and peace. Sending all our love and prayers. God bless you. Love, Theresa, Bob, Julie and Tony.

  • When I heard the news, it shocked my household. I remember knowing the Belsitos at the Mobile Home Park back in the early 80s. I still have Debbie's eastern accent voice in my head when she used to yell out, "get out of the yard!" We then reconnected a few years ago. She was such a warm hearted, no nonsense, kind woman. She will be greatly missed by my family as well as the community. My thoughts go out to Anthony, Tara aand their siblings. It's hard when you lose a parent ♡ And also to Tony. You two were the cutest couple and I know loved each other so very much!

  • Tony - I'm terribly sorry for your loss. The depth of your sorrow is a reflection of the happiness that Debbie brought to your life, the joy and exuberance you shared. While grief is universal, it is also very personal. Time and faith do heal. And you will always have those special memories of Debbie in your heart that will bring a smile to your face. I know that when I miss my father, for example, I try to remember something funny he said or did. May your cherished memories bring you peace and comfort through the days that are ahead. I am also reminded of this verse from 1 Corinthians 2:9 - However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”. Though the pain is indescribable now, we must never forget that our separation is only temporary. We will be reunited forever on that glad resurrection morning. God bless you!
